# Views

> Shortcuts are written for the Mac. On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl where it says Cmd, unless the text names another key.

A view shows the pages of a collection in a particular way. Add as many as you like in **Collection Settings... → Views**; they all show the same pages, so changing a value in one view changes it everywhere.

## The view types

**List** shows each page with its title and the first lines of its text, so you can skim a collection without opening its pages. Add a few properties or group the pages if you like. A new collection starts with a list, grouped by when pages were last edited. Good for notes, meeting notes or a handbook. To show titles only, turn off **Show Previews** in the view's settings.

**Table** shows one page per row and properties as columns. Each cell is an editor for its type: click a Choice cell for its options, a date cell for the picker. Enter edits the selected cell, Space previews the row.

**Board**, a kanban board, groups pages into columns by a property: a Choice like Status, a User like Owner, a tag, a date or a page link. Drag a card to another column and the property changes. Each card is a page; open it to keep writing.

**Gallery** shows pages as cards with a page preview or a cover image. For covers, point the view at an Image or File property.

With **Gallery Style** set to **Page Previews**, each card shows the page's banner, its title and the first lines of its text. **Page Previews (Featured First)** gives the first page a wide card across the top, like the lead story of a blog. Sort the view by date, newest first, and the latest article leads.

**Calendar** places pages by a Date & Time property, such as a due date or a publication date. Open an entry to change the date, and it moves.

**Page Shortcut** makes one page a tab of the collection's view list, next to other views like a table and board. Use it when one of the collection's pages is a home page or overview page for your collection that you want to quickly access with the other views.

## Filter, sort and group

Every view has a filter, a sort order and, where it makes sense, a grouping. Filters use the same query language as search, with the collection's name in front of its properties: `@Projects.Status="In progress"` shows only active projects, `@Projects.Owner=@me` only yours. Besides its own properties, every collection has Title, Created and Modified: `@Projects.Modified >= "last week"`. The [Query language reference](../search-and-navigation/query-language-reference.md) has every operator.

Sort by any property, or choose **Custom Order** to drag pages into the order you want. A view sorted by a property keeps that order, so switch to Custom Order before arranging cards by hand.

A filter only changes what the view shows: everyone in the workspace can still find the pages it leaves out.

## Open without leaving

Enter opens the selected page, Cmd+Enter opens it aside, and Space peeks: a side panel follows along as you move through the rows with the arrow keys.

## Dynamic collections

A dynamic collection has views over pages from several collections at once. Each of its views picks its own source collections and filter: a delivery board can combine Projects and Issues, a calendar can combine blog posts and newsletters. The pages stay where they are, and editing them there edits the originals. See [Dynamic collections](dynamic-collections.md).
