# Panels and Focus Mode

> Shortcuts are written for the Mac. On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl where it says Cmd, unless the text names another key.

Thymer shows pages in panels, side by side. Plan things on your journal while you work through notes, keep the brief open while you write the meeting notes, or a search next to the page you are cleaning up.

*Two panels: a page and the Journal.*

## Open aside

Cmd-click a link, a sidebar item or a search result to open it in a panel next to the current one. **Open Aside** is in the menus too, and Cmd+Enter opens the selected item aside in lists and boards. Cmd+Shift+\ (Ctrl+\ on Windows and Linux) splits the current panel; Cmd+1 to Cmd+6 jump between panels; Cmd+. opens the panel switcher.

Each panel has its own history. Cmd+[ (Alt+[ on Windows and Linux) and Cmd+] (Alt+] on Windows and Linux) go back and forward in the active panel.

On a phone, panels stack: you see one at a time and switch between them.

## Panel Options

The two-column icon at the top right of a panel opens **Panel Options**:

- **Split this panel** opens a second panel next to it.
- **Focus Mode** gives the panel the whole window; see below.
- **Swap with next panel** trades places with the panel next to it.
- **Focus with Vibe Shift** goes into Focus Mode with a vibe of your choice; see below.
- **Panel Switcher**, and a list of all open panels, appear when more panels are open than fit on the screen.

## Peek

Press Space on a row or card in a collection view and a side panel shows the page. Move with the arrow keys and the panel follows. Keep the page open when you want to work on it, or exit Peek and the panel shows what it showed before.

## Focus Mode

Cmd+Shift+Enter, or **Focus Mode** in Panel Options, gives the current panel the whole window and hides the sidebar and the other panels. Press it again, or click **Exit Focus Mode** at the top right, to come back.

## Vibe Shift

Vibe Shift is a virtual change of scenery!

Pick a fitting vibe under **Focus with Vibe Shift** in Panel Options, or under **Vibe Shift** in the command palette while in Focus Mode. To try them out, click the **Vibe Shift** button at the top right in Focus Mode and move through the list with the arrow keys: each vibe shows on the spot, and Escape goes back to how it was.

A vibe lasts until you leave Focus Mode or choose **Turn off Vibe Shift**. Your own theme stays as it is. Plugins can add vibes of their own.
