# Create an account

Thymer is in beta, and accounts are created with an invite. When yours arrives, sign up at [register.thymer.com](https://register.thymer.com) with the code in it. From then on you sign in at [thymer.com](https://thymer.com), or in the desktop and mobile apps.

## Your account's address

Every account has its own address, such as `acme.thymer.com`. Your workspaces are at that address, and you type it to reach them in a browser. The account owner can change the name and the address later in **Settings → Account Name/URL**. Tell the team before you do, because bookmarks and links use it.

## The first workspace

Signing up creates the account and its first workspace and makes you the account owner. Invite people from **Settings → Invite Users** and approve them in **Manage Users**; see [Inviting people](../teams/inviting-people.md). Owners can add workspaces with **Settings → Create Workspace**.

## Your password and your key

Your password protects the key that encrypts your workspaces, and Thymer never sees it. Save your Recovery Key the first time you sign in, from **Settings → Recovery Key**, into your password manager. It is the only way back in if you forget the password. See [Encryption and recovery keys](../your-data/encryption-and-recovery-keys.md).

## One account or two

Everyone in a workspace sees everything in it, and the workspaces of one account share an owner. For notes you want to keep entirely apart from work, make a second account. You can be signed in to several at once.

## Your other devices

Sign in with the same email and password on your other computers and phones. The first sign-in on a device downloads your workspaces, and from then on they stay in sync. See [Desktop app](../apps-and-settings/desktop-app.md) and [Mobile apps](../apps-and-settings/mobile-apps.md).
