Adding tasks
With Thymer you can simply describe your task and type it in without any complicated forms.
Here's a list of examples to show what you can do (the order in which you add these does not matter):
adding due date
|
Order new business cards @tomorrow
also try: @wed, @sep2nd, @2/12, @today, @3days, @2months, @2weeks, @16th, @week18
or use the calendar to pick a date.
|
adding due time
|
Progress meeting @tomorrow @9am-3pm
also try: @2pm, @16:00-17:30, @8-11am (more)
|
adding flags
(little icons -
more)
|
get productive @important
also try: @billable, @waiting, @discuss
|
adding tags
|
buy coffee @groceries @supermarket
also try: @project, if project is the short name of a project.
|
use names to delegate
|
design logo @peter
(use the username of a team member; use @all to show on everyone's list)
|
time estimates
|
bake a nice cake @1.5h @billable
also try: @30m
|
repeating tasks
|
file taxes @every-3months @tuesday (starts tuesday; if no due date given: starts today)
also try: @everyday, @every5weeks, @every22nd, @every-sunday
(the - is optional)
|
mix and match
|
@peter @tuesday write report @important @writing @everyday
|
position in the list
|
learn Dutch @last
New tasks are added depending on their due date, or on top
if no date is given. With @last, your task is always added at the
bottom.
also try: dragging the input bar to change the position
|
add a note
|
Call Peter -- Discuss the meeting notes, check progress and schedule
The part after the double dash (--) is added as a note to the task. Handy when
tasks aren't self-explanatory.
|
To assign a task to a project, you can type add the tag of that project
(e.g. @project), or first select the project and type in the task. The
same works for delegating tasks: you can either add @username or first
select the user from the list and then type the task.
Repeating Tasks (Recurring Tasks)
With Thymer it's possible to create recurring tasks.
Such a task starts at a specific day, and is then repeated according to some pattern (e.g.
every 2 days).
To create a repeating task, Thymer needs to know the start date, and the repeating pattern.
Thymer will show the task in the list together with the next deadline.
Every time when a repeating task is 'Completed', Thymer will update the deadline.
Example: "file taxes @everymonth @wednesday"
Creates a task that starts (has the first deadline) on wednesday, and
then repeats every month. If no due date is given, the first deadline is "Today".
To change the pattern or next deadline, click the Edit

icon (explained below).
Tip: use this feature in combination with reminders (See Settings).
The Task List
After you enter your first task, your list looks something like this:

Hover over the task to show the option icons on the left.
Here's what they do:
Complete Task
The task is marked as complete and removed from the list. You can find it back by going
to Reports, where it shows up as 'Completed'.
If you complete a repeating task, the due date will be changed to
the next occurence, and the task is moved down.
Log Time
If you want to do time tracking, click this button. The following pane
will show up:
A timer starts with keeps track of the time you spent (it will also keep
ticking if you close Thymer). You can also select or manually enter
another duration. Optionally you can add a description.
Edit Task
After clicking the Edit button, the following pane will show up:
Here you can edit the task. If you prefer the text input you use
for adding a task, click the blue up arrows. With the (1) menu, you
can re-assign the task to another project. With (2), you can change
the team member who's responsible for this task.
Discuss Task
To add comments or discuss the task with team members, click this button. A discuss
pane will show up where you can type, view and edit comments.
Delete Task
After you delete a task, you can find it back in 'Reports'.
Keyboard Shortcuts
To easily navigate around your task list, Thymer supports various keyboard shortcuts.
In general, in most panels and dialogs, pressing ENTER confirms the current action,
and ESCAPE brings you back. The other keyboard shortcuts and their actions are listed below:
Search
Thymer also comes with a powerful Search to find back tasks and comments.
If you use tags in the search box you can search within specific projects,
for tasks belonging to somebody in your team, or tasks with a specific tag.
The @all tag
If you add this tag to your search it will return all tasks, even if they’re deleted, belong to a different user in your team, and so on.
@deleted and @completed/@done
Add these tags if you want to search for previously deleted or completed tasks.
Flags
You can search for tasks with a specific flag with the ordinary tags: @deleted, @important, @billable and @waiting.
Search based on deadline
When you use the tag @today, you’ll search for all tasks that people in your team have planned to do today. Do you want to know if Bob is going to work on any important tasks today? Just type “@bob @important @today” and you’ll find out! Aside from @today, we also have the @thisweek tag, that will return all tasks scheduled for this week.
You can also search based on deadline, with the tags @due, @duetoday, @duetomorrow, and so on. With these tags you can quickly find upcoming deadlines. With month tags you’ll find tasks due in that month (@september to find all tasks due in September). And finally, you can use day tags. Use @wednesday to find which tasks are due this Wednesday.
Another feature is: @overdue. This will give you all tasks that have not met their deadline.
Mix and match!
All the tricks combined above can be combined to get exactly the search results you need. Want to find all tasks that are important, need to be discussed, and are due this week? Now you can: “@discuss @important @duethisweek”. Want to find all tasks with an @email tag, in the projects Marketing or Sales? Just as easy: “@email @marketing @sales”.
Saving search results

You can save your searches, so you can get back to them in a couple of clicks!
