What's Thymer?

A quick recap: Thymer is a new take on notes, tasks, planning, and organizing information. For personal use or teams at work. It feels like a modern IDE or text editor, but for planning and organizing. What's different:

Editing. At its core is a completely new editor, written from scratch, blending text editing, outlining, long-form writing and rich styling.

Customizable. Collections turn docs into flexible databases. Structure, query, and view them as visual galleries, project boards or data tables. Extensible with JavaScript plugins for full control.

Privacy and data ownership without compromise. Thymer combines a fast offline-first experience, end-to-end-encrypted syncing, real-time multiplayer collaboration and access from anywhere.

Built for speed. Built for speed, with keyboard shortcuts and command palettes for everything.

What's included in the alpha version, what isn't?

The alpha version is our very first release, to make sure we're getting rid of the biggest bugs and issues before launching the beta, and finally the public release.

There are a few things we wanted to include but couldn't make it in time for the alpha release. We're actively finishing the work on those and will be added soon:

Self-hosting. Thymer will be ejectable, with an option to self-host.

Desktop Apps. Desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux are coming soon.

Mobile. This first alpha version is only available in the web browser on desktop. While native mobile apps will take longer, we want to get to some form of mobile web access soon.

What's included?

With that out of the way, here's a quick overview of main features that are in the alpha version:

FAQ

Where can I try Thymer? If you have an alpha invite code, you can sign up for a new account at https://register.thymer.com. If you don't have an invite code yet, you can sign up for the early access launch list at https://thymer.com. We'll try to invite more people as soon as possible.

Where can we contact you? Feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any bug reports, feature requests, or general feedaback. We'd love to hear from you!

Who is "we"? We're a small independent team, Diederik van Houten (@jdvhouten) and Wim Cools (@wcools). We've been building profitable bootstrapped software products together for over a decade (all still serving customers). We started working on Thymer more than 3 years ago, self-funding the development with a mission to build something big :).

Is there a roadmap? There are plenty of ideas and improvements we want to add, but we'll focus on the items under Coming Soon first, and then pick the next ones.

Is there a tool to import data from other tools? We'd like to add that, but there isn't one yet.

Pricing? We'll announce more pricing details soon. There is going to be a generous free plan forever for personal use (including sync + optional self-hosting), and a paid subscription plan for pro/commercial use. If you're interested in a specific business use case, happy to hear from you at [email protected].

Where can we get updates? You can follow us for updates on X at @wcools and @jdvhouten. We realize that's not convenient for everyone, so we'll work on more channels soon, like a blog on this website, and possibly a community forum/chat. There's also an unofficial subreddit at /r/thymer.
