Export
We're big believers in data ownership, longevity, and portability. That's why we're building Thymer to be an ejectable app, where you can export your data whenever you want, and even import it back later.
You can export your data by opening the Command Palette (Cmd/Ctrl+P) and selecting Download export of your data.
The export is a ZIP file containing your entire workspace, including all your collections, records, user profiles (when working in a team), files and a full version history. In fact, the ZIP file is designed to be a complete snapshot of your workspace, so you could eventually even restore your workspace on a self-hosted server and continue working.
Beta Version
We're still working on the finishing touches for the export, ejectable and self-hostable features. Once the self-hosting server is ready, you'll be able to take your Export ZIP and import it back into a self-hosted server and continue working (or vice versa, eject from the self-hosted server and import the data back into the cloud service).
Working with the exported data
The server stores all your data in encrypted form. The data in the ZIP file you download will be encrypted as well. You can decrypt the data using the thymercli tool, the same Thymer CLI used for MCP and command-line access.
Download thymercli for your platform, or build it from source. Then decrypt your export:
You can also re-encrypt a decrypted export with a new password:
If you omit the --password flag, the tool will prompt you to enter it securely.
thymercli is open source, and we plan to expand it over time, adding more documentation on the data format, and providing helpful examples. This should also allow people to build converters to and from other tools and formats if they aren't available yet.
Data Format
All data in the ZIP (except uploaded files) is stored in .json files. We'll add more documentation on how all the fields are stored over time, to make it easier to write tools to work with the data and convert it to other formats for other tools.
For now, you can look at the source code at https://github.com/thymerapp/thymercli.
