Editing with agents and other tools
Anything that edits files can edit your workspace through the mirror: your editor, a shell script, a cron job, a static site generator, or an AI coding agent. Save the file, and the change is in Thymer a moment later.
Agents
Point the agent at the collection folder and say what you want, the same way you would in a code repository:
Edit the onboarding pages in the Handbook folder. Adjust the checklists to mention the new office locations (find them in this collection as well)
Coding agents already work this way in code repositories: they search and edit. Ask for a plan or a diff before letting an agent loose on larger changes, and read the result in Thymer. Edits to pages work just like if you would edit them yourself: other team members will see the edits live as they are saved, and you can use Version History to view older versions of the page.
Other people can keep editing the same pages in Thymer meanwhile. Changes to different lines merge; Simultaneous edits explains what happens when both sides change the same line.
To give an agent one collection inside a project it already works in, see Link a collection into a project folder.
Files move pages
| On disk | In Thymer |
|---|---|
Rename Launch plan.md |
The page is renamed |
| Move it to another collection folder | The page moves to that collection |
Create a .md file in a collection folder |
A new page |
| Create a folder | A new collection |
| Rename a folder | The collection is renamed |
| Delete a file | The page goes to Trash |
Keep the guid line when you rename or move a file. Moving a page to a collection with different properties keeps values the new collection has no property for as carried-over properties.
Several computers
Thymer syncs the workspace between your devices. Each computer that needs a mirror sets one up in its own desktop app, in its own folder. Don’t copy a .thymer/ folder from one machine to another; it holds that machine’s sync state. If two windows have the same workspace open, one of them runs the mirror and the status dialog says which.
